An Electrochemical Sensor Based on Graphene Nanosheets-Zinc Oxide Composite Coated Glassy Carbon Electrode for the Sensitive Determination of Para-Nitrophenol

A green and facile approach was demonstrated to prepare graphene nanosheets/zinc oxide (GNS/ZnO) composite as sensing material for electrochemical determination of para-nitrophenol (p-NP). The ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by modified wet chemical method using zinc nitrate and sodium hydroxides precursors and soluble starch as stabilizing agent. The materials were characterized using different surface analytical techniques. A new sensing system, GNS/ ZnO modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was constructed by depositing GNS/ZnONPs composite onto the surface of GCE. It exhibited enhanced current response in 0.1M phosphate buffer (pH 6.8) for the determination of p-NP with a linear working range of 9.9 x10-8M to 218.7 x10-8 M and detection limit of 8.8 x 10-9M using square wave adsorptive stripping voltammetry.
