Abstract

In this paper, I make a case for medium- and even large-N qualitative research in constitutional law. That is, I make a case for using qualitative techniques to analyze a set of cases that is larger than usual for qualitative research designs. In doing so, I recharacterize some familiar research practices along these lines, but I also advocate wider adoption of several less familiar research practices. In particular, I argue for more attention to case selection, data sharing, and collaborative research in qualitative constitutional scholarship.

Keywords: constitutional law, qualitative methods, medium-N methods, constitutional development, data sharing
