Abstract

This is the written manuscript for a series of talks given at La Sapienza in Rome in 2015, at the second edition of the Gaetano Morelli Lectures. The manuscript has served as the basis for a contribution to an edited volume grown out of the 2015 Morelli Lectures. In it, I give a general account of the ICJ's influence as an agent of legal development - based on contributions in Tams/Sloan, The Development of International Law by the ICJ (OUP 2013).

Keywords: ICJ, international court of justice, world court, judicial law-making, ICJ jurisprudence
