Abstract

Indian Railways utilize lead acid batteries extensively on passenger’s coaches for train lighting and air conditioning. They adopt 24 V as well as 110 V train lighting system on self-generating passengers coaches. At loco shed, Ajani Nagpur, per day 20 litres of distilled water have required for charging and maintenance. It has produced by utilizing 360 KWh electrical energy. This energy can be saved by adopting solar distillation system. Keeping this aim, an experimental prototype model has designed and fabricated onsite of loco shed to generate distilled water. The system produces 4 litres of water per day with a thermal efficiency of 27.21%. This paper demonstrates work in the concise form.
