Thermohydraulic Performance Enhancement Using a Novel Combined V-Shaped Bluff Body Configuration

Heat transfer in a duct in presence of V-shape bluff body configuration has been experimentally examined in the turbulent flow regime up to the Reynolds number of 100000. This work presents a wide experimental study on novel combined V-shaped bluff body configuration in a plain duct at different positions. Isothermal pressure drop tests and heat transfer experiments under uniform heat flux conditions have been carried out. The Reynolds number ranges from 100-100000. The results indicate that in presence of V-shaped bluff body, heat transfer in the duct is increased by around 5%-15%. The increase in heat transfer is related to the eddy formation downstream of the V-shaped bluff body. Heat transfer augmentation and friction loss increased with combined effect of V-shaped bluff body configuration. Experimental results indicate that the use of V-shaped bluff body the duct can prominently increase the heat transfer performance.
