Effect of Work Hardening Ability of Nitronic Steels on Erosion Resistance

Abstract

A study on two grades of nitronic steels i.e. 21-4-N (21Cr+4Ni+N) and 23-8-N (23Cr+8Ni+N) has been presented to find out the correlation of work hardening coefficient and the erosion rate. It has been observed that the increase in rate of work hardening has helped both the steel to withstand the attack of erosive particles for longer duration of time. The brittle failure of hard carbides has led to increase in overall erosive weight loss of the nitronic steels.
