Current ongoing experimentation aims to prepare the database of Effect of high temperature on variation in Tensile Properties of engine components. This is to meet future emission Euro V & above requirement along with its importance as ecofriendly material and 50% lightweight structure to improve fuel economy. Because in Euro V, to meet NOx level of 0.27g/kWh will require EGR rates of 35% at full load and 50% at partial load and for these EGR rates, the compressed air pressure and engine temperature at the outlet is too high for conventional materials of powertrain components like piston and exhaust system. For the experimentation, we have selected piston and exhaust system which are mainly subjected to high temperature condition and their performance at high temperature is crucial in terms of low emission and fuel economy. Most commonly used materials for piston (Al 6061) and for exhaust system (Austenitic Stainless Steel 316) is used for experimentation at high temperature and variation in their tensile properties and effect on respective component’s performance were discussed. This investigation study carried out in such way that it will serve as basis for Development of material for euro v and above engines to withstand at high temperature to have optimum and desired performance.
