The work demonstrates the development of a software for the operation of variable speed wind turbines with pitch control. Pitch control software will allow the wind turbine to capture Optimum energy in the real-time conditions.
When the velocity of the wind is low to medium the turbine will be allowed to capture maximum amount of energy by pitching the blades at optimum angles, which will obtain maximum co-efficient of power. If the wind speed increases such that the power captured by the rotor approaches the rated power capacity, then the pitch of the blade would be controlled to maintain the desired power by decreasing the aerodynamic efficiency. This is possible by pitching the blades to feather such that it will generate the desired output power.
At higher wind speed the wind turbine can be controlled by pitching the blade to feather i.e. to shed some power by pitching the blades to operate at lower power coefficient. The method of pitching to feather to control the aerodynamic power P captured will also be implemented.
