Abstract

The undamped vibrations of the downstream cylinder in the wake of the upstream cylinder (wake-induced vibration) have been studied in the present investigation. The cylinders are of identical diameters and are placed in a tandem arrangement at a distance of 5D (where D is the characteristic dimension of the cylinder; here diameter). The measurements are done at a Reynolds number (Re) of 100 over a range of reduced speed (1≤U*≤10). The modes of vortex shedding are studied along with interesting flow features at different U*.
