Abstract
The last 20 years have brought significant changes in the evolution of the Romanian energy sector. Even though Romania is considered a country with high potential for renewable energy, its resources are not fully exploited. Accession to the European Union has led to significant changes in energy policy and legislation on the alignment and promotion of renewable energy. In this context, this article aims to provide an overview of the renewable energy sector in Romania. Based on an analysis of the Romanian energy policy and legislation, the paper presents the energy sector and the current status of the main renewable energy sources. The information was collected from the available data from the annual statistical reports of the National Regulatory Agency for Energy (ANRE) and Eurostat.
