Abstract

English Abstract: In global terms, water scarcity is one of the main challenges of the 21st century. This scarcity is only a natural phenomenon, but it is also caused by human action. The current conditions of climate change are an added difficulty, since the increase in temperatures leads to a decrease in rainfall, increasing evaporation and evapotranspiration.

Sustainable water management is particularly important, so that measures that encourage the use of efficient technologies, the elimination of losses and even cultural alternatives are essential. This work performs an internal audit in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Talca, in order to improve management and reduce water consumption. For this purpose different actions are proposed on all inventoried devices.

The implementation of these proposals does not depend only on the amount of water saved, but there are a number of variables that must be taken into account before making the final decision (monetary, installation, shelf life, etc.). Therefore, this work applies a methodology to prioritize alternatives known as analytic hierarchy process (AHP), which helps to make the most appropriate decision taking into account all the selection criteria considered.
