Amplified Trickle Algorithm in Routing Protocol for Low Power Lossy Networks for Internet of Things

Internet of Things (IoT) currently generates a worldwide revolution in the technology field that demands data transfer, data acquisition, and networking confronts. There are several ways or protocols available to connect and transfer data between different nodes in a network. The Routing Protocol for Low Power in lossy Networks (RPL) is a routing solution designed specifically for wireless sensor networks. The RPL routing protocol mainly focuses on forward traffic and making routing decisions. If the routing decisions are not appropriate and intelligent then the network needs to perform retransmission that consumes more resources, power, bandwidth and processing. The Amplified Trickle (AT) algorithm is proposed to enhance the routing performance in a low power lossy network. The AT algorithm is implemented using the Cooja simulator and the performance is analyzed based on power consumption and radio duty cycling. The results show that the performance of the RPL network is improved and the network lifetime is increased.
