Telecommunications Taxes: 50-State Estimates of Excess State and Local Tax Burden

Abstract

The author reviews the state and local tax burdens on telecommunications companies in the 50 states. An estimated 39 percent of all telecom taxes - $7 billion - are excess taxes that exceed taxes that are generally imposed on other businesses and their customers, the author says.
