Abstract

This discussion paper examines participation of municipalities in the field of cryptocurrencies with a view to serving multiple purposes including raising fiscal assets and creating mediums of exchange, as well as encouraging fiscal responsibility, fiscal autonomy, and fiscal transparency; and it does so by considering the case of the municipal government of Berkeley, California.
