This short book traces the 65-year history of the Iowa Law School Foundation (ILSF), the fundraising arm of the University of Iowa College of Law. The book has five major components. 1.) A brief Introduction locates the position of the ILSF in the landscape of the law school world and the University of Iowa. It also identifies the sources of information relied upon in the book. 2.) Next a list of Milestones in the development of the ILSF is presented. This list tracks the growth of the philanthropic organization from a $146 initial class gift to becoming a $100 million major player in the life of the law school. It also serves as a rough table of contents to the next section, which constitutes the bulk of the book. 3.) The third section presents summaries of the highlights of each of the over 130 semi-annual meetings of ILSF’s governing board since its founding in 1952. 4.) This lengthy section is followed by an effort by the author to synthesize this wealth of information and draw out a few major and minor themes that emerged as the ILSF evolved over time. 5.) The final section is a series of Appendices setting out the key documents creating ILSF and governing its management, plus lists of all the alumni, faculty members and students who played a formal role in the first 65 years of ILSF’s institutional life.
