Abstract

Pressurized gas produced from biomass is a renewable resource that is attracting a great deal of attention due to its wide range of industrial applications, such as the production of hydrogen, chemicals or high grade fuels. This article reviews the state-of-the-art of the fluidization technology applied for the gasification of biomass aimed at the production of gas. Subsequently the article focuses on the fluidized bed technology to discuss the main process parameters and their influence on the product composition, quality of the fuel gas and the operability of the gasifier. A novel and comprehensive approach for the review of the literature on gasification is presented in this work, seeking to streamline the information in an attempt to determine the optimal gasification process conditions. Progress on feedstock properties of various fuels for gasification to foresee their potentiality for the process is also reported in this paper, including reviews of gasification processes and various classifications and technologies and the effect of various process parameters like particle size, diameter of the reactor, length or height of the reactor, feed rate of the biomass, pressure and temperature on gas composition and efficiency of gasifier.

Keywords: Fluidized Bed Gasifier, Particle size, Feed rate, Temperature, SBR
