Abstract

This article identifies inadequacies in conventional notions of risk and related concepts. Then it explores alternatives and their practical implications, such as their commercial prospects for risk mitigation when traded as decentralized markets on a blockchain platform.

It first introduces key design artefacts created during the build-and-evaluate iterations of an ongoing programme of design science research, the aim of which was Mode 2 knowledge production for responding to challenging situations through the application of blockchain architectures. Then commercial implications are considered for public and private peer networks in general. After which a specific opportunity is considered for combining risk mitigation and prospect realization in a market architecture for consolidating peer network responses from multiple sources, such as insurance and venture capital industries.

Keywords: risk, mitigation, insurance, venture capital, markets, decentralized, blockchain
