Design and Analysis of a Bubbling Fluidized Bed Gasifier Using Different Biomasses

The need for the energy is increasing day by day and the commercial energy source alone cannot meet the requirement. The biomass is one of the renewable energy sources, which helps to fill the gap between the energy production and the energy demand. Thus, various researches are done on the gasification technology with various biomasses. Consequently, this study is aimed at the purpose of the performance valuation of the sugarcane bagasse and tyre waste in a bubbling fluidized bed gasifier. The gasifier was fabricated under the developed design parameters with the help of reference literatures. The thermochemical equilibrium model was used to predict the producer gas composition. Energy and the mass transfer that takes place in the gasifier during operation were analyzed by analytical method. Simulation using Scilab is carried out to analyze different operating condition than doing experimentation for each case. The analysis was carried out to find the effect of equivalence ratio over the gas composition, gasifier efficiency, carbon conversion efficiency, energy content of producer gas and higher heating value of the gas. This study shows that at ER=0.2, the heating value of the producer gas was found to be 7.064 MJ/Nm3 with bagasse and it is also found that sugarcane bagasse shows higher performance in almost all the analysis than the tyre waste.
