Abstract

Mahindra & Mahindra, the multifaceted Indian conglomerate, which deals in a diverse range of products, from SUVs to software, had sealed a multi-million dollar deal with the ailing Korean auto major SsangYong in February 2011. This case study talks about the journey of the deal between the two automobile giants. While providing a background to the events that led to this deal, and briefly discussing the prevailing conditions, the case also highlights the post-acquisition challenges, such as marketing, financial and integration challenges. Integration comprises both culture and business practices. The case is thus a useful teaching aid for students at introductory stages in business schools.
