Abstract

Hemoglobin is an important part of the human blood, the deficiency of which causes anemia. Anemia poses a serious problem among women and children across the world. Hemoglobin can be measured invasively and non-invasively. Current diagnostic pathological methods are mostly Invasive which include drawing of blood. Invasive methods pose certain problems like patients discomfort and chances to spread blood communicable diseases. An approximate content of hemoglobin can directly be identified by observing the color of patients target area like nails, palpebral conjunctiva, palms, tongue etc. This paper highlights image segmentation algorithms for extracting the palpebral conjunctiva from the image of a patient’s eye. Different algorithms are tried upon the eye image to precisely segment the palpebral conjunctiva region. This segmented palpebral conjunctiva region can further be subjected to feature extraction and classification to estimate the hemoglobin level of the person whose image is taken into consideration which can further indicate whether the patient is anemic or not.
