Abstract
This chapter is included in the book Environmental Law in New Zealand, edited by Peter Salmon and David Grinlinton. The first part of the chapter provides an introduction to the main concepts relevant to compliance and addresses different types of regulatory design in New Zealand environmental law. The second part of the chapter considers the specific enforcement mechanisms in more detail, primarily the mechanisms contained in the Resource Management Act 1991.
