Abstract

As the notions of gender equality and women’s rights have taken root in modern China, one important social problem gaining increased recognition and response from the Party-State and civil society alike is domestic violence. In this article, the author considers the problems when it comes to taking domestic violence in China seriously, along with the progress that has been achieved thus far. The article concludes that what is needed is an increase in social pressure against domestic violence and in favour of women’s protection.
