Data Management Framework for Internet of Things

Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the dynamic and global network of smart interconnected objects connected to each other through the internet. IoT is generating massive volume of heterogenous, continuously streaming data. Database requirements to store and analyze IoT data are unique. This paper focuses on data life cycle, characteristics and the challenges to store IoT data and makes few recommendations on different selection criteria that can be considered for selecting database management technologies. It also explores core IoT components and explains how data management requirements are distinct for different layers of IoT architecture. The paper also touches upon emergence of fog computing and its role in IoT.
