Abstract
This working paper sets out some initial thoughts on the approach taken in the draft Environment (Principles and Governance) Bill to environmental principles. It sets them against the backdrop of the existing nature and role of environmental principles in environmental law, focusing on the experience in EU environmental law. Our overall conclusion is that the current draft Bill does not maintain the legal status of environmental principles as they have come to apply through EU law.
