Abstract

The causes of failure of bolted joint subjected to dynamic loads are vibration induced loosening and fatigue. When bolted joint is exposed to vibration, firstly it will loosen and then it will fail due to fatigue. Hence it is very important to study the loosening behavior of bolted joint under dynamic loading. This paper presents a study of loosening of bolted joint by finite element analysis. A three dimensional finite element model is used to study the loosening behavior of the bolted joint subjected to dynamic transverse load.
