A hole is a recess in the casting. The metaphor assumes a larger dimension graduating in hierarchical level. The role of a hole is, however, complex; beneficial when it reduces casting weight or rejections; and detrimental when it leads to more rejects. The complexity is enhanced with holes at strategic locations, which necessitates that a gain of holistic perspective is attempted. Such a perspective allows an understanding of 'the whole of something or someone, and not just a part'. Once such a perspective is assumed, the holes are sorted out. However, since holes tend to impair this holism — the belief that each thing is a whole which is more important than the parts that make it up. This process serves to result in a renewal of knowledge to continually replenish the holism to advantage. Such is the additional benefits of holes.
This work is an attempt to study the interaction between holes and the holistic substance, including the hole. Simulating holes with permeability, and holistic with strength, an extension of thinking is explored, for attempts to be driven to a higher plane. The guidance to examine both in individual shades, and in mapped colours in a holistic body should be gained using simultaneously a helicopter view and a magnifying glass. The concepts are opposite but learning synergistic and augmentative.
