Abstract

Due to the special nature of double circuit incomplete journey transmission (DCIJT) line, the traditional protective relaying has been a challenging work. This paper investigates a fuzzy expert system (FES) approach for DCIJT lines to classify and locate the shunt faults. This approach adopts the fundamental component of currents of the DCIJT line at only one end. The presented FES is achieved from the structure of MAMDANI system. The results of MATLAB and fuzzy simulation conform that the proposed FES approach can correctly classify and locate the faults considering various fault types, fault inception angles (FIA), fault resistances, and fault distances within the DCIJT line.
