Abstract

The idea of using popular biological attributes like face, hand geometry, iris, fingerprint, etc. in order to recognize or authenticate a person or individual is called biometrics. This paper provides an overview to liveliness detection of fingerprint biometric in particular, for security in cloud based systems for usage as secure framework for Biometrics-as-a-Service (BaaS). Normally BaaS frame work performs biometric matching in cloud operations. Here they normally rely on popular consumer devices like smartphones with simple fingerprint sensors. They have become so common that they are frequently being used to unlock the phone or some apps in the phone daily a thousand time. We here propose to add up an extra layer of security by having the liveliness detection of fingerprint there at the cost of an extra bit of complexity. With the iPhone X being a costlier counterpart with face based BaaS, so android phones with liveliness detection based fingerprint BaaS application is a better option.
