While it certainly fails to provide a credible roadmap for averting climate catastrophe, the Coalition government’s release of the Climate Solutions Package might prompt us to ask: can we seriously continue to deceive ourselves into thinking that climate change presents no threat to our survival? The signs of impending disaster loom large. In 2016-17, ‘Australia [...] endured another intense summer, with more than 200 recordbreaking extreme weather events driven by climate change’; climate change continues to exacerbate the Australian drought. Thinking about these facts might make you feel ill.
