Abstract

This paper presents the work done on the topic Design of Pressure Vessel as per ASME codes, using PV Elite. The pressure vessel considered here was operated previously at atmospheric pressure and has now to be operated at 3 kg/cm2, so using ASME Section VIII-Division I thickness of the pressure vessel wall was calculated for new operating pressure and checked whether the present wall thickness will sustain the new operating pressure. Introduction of manway results in certain area of the pressure vessel excluded, so this area of material taken out needs to be compensated using Rf-pad. Designing of this pressure vessel is carried out using PV Elite and results obtained here are used to check the calculations done using ASME Section VIII-Division I. Results obtained show that the present wall thickness will sustain the new operating pressure and introduction of manway uses Rf-pads for area compensation.
