Abstract

The need of security systems like CCTV is growing day by day. Although a vast number of options are available to satisfy our needs they are most likely to be expensive and require lots of maintenance. Raspberry Pi is a small pocket sized computer and has the potential to become a security camera using a Pi Camera. It has a processor, a main memory (RAM) and storage space. It is an ARM based SOC. It has features that enable it to detect motion and take pictures using the camera. It can then use python scripts that can direct the pi to send emails and notifications to a pre-determined address. The equipment used is easily available, cheap and do not need maintenance as regularly as a full-fledged CCTV camera setup. Thus we have achieved a cost effective security system that we can easily manage without paid help.
