Abstract

The Book of Sales is one of the lengthiest chapters of the Muwatta. It provides an interesting window into the market and the economy of 8th century Medina, where Malik treats a wide variety of legal problems arising out of cash, credit and barter transactions, involving a diverse range of agricultural and manufactured products, as well as issues arising out of the slave trade.
