Abstract

This brief book chapter focuses on tribal take-over of hospitals and other services previously delivered by Indian Health Service (IHS). The chapter describes the underfunding of Indian health care and explores reasons why tribal members may push back against tribal government proposals to assume responsibility for IHS facilities.
