Abstract

English Abstract: The article critically discusses purism and the unjustifiability of Stjepan Babić's request to replace the word "sport" with the form "šport". It is shown that just as purism and prescriptiveness lack a foothold in linguistics, so does the assertion of some Croatian linguists that all Croatian speakers must constantly learn the standard language because they do not know it.
