Abstract
A numerical analysis on an interrupted microchannel heat exchanger (MCHS) with triangular ribs on the side walls is conducted to study fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in microchannels. Numerical model is simulated using silicon as solid and water as coolant. Numerical analysis is done by considering viscous dissipation, Temperature dependent thermophysical properties and entrance effects. Pressure drop and temperature across the domain is studied. It is found that triangular ribs can considerably increase heat transfer but comes with a penalty of high pressure drop. Offset arrangement of triangular ribs is more effective due to improved heat transfer and reduction in pressure drop.
