Abstract

Female labour force participation is the major thrust area of research among many research studies. As we know female labour force participation is an important indicator of growth and development of the country. Various economists in India and on global context presented imaginative piece of work on the detailed study of female labour force participation. Punjab represents a case of stratified labour market participation in case of both males and females. The present study aims to analyse the female labour force participation in Punjab by explaining its trends over the time period of census 2001 and 2011. The data has been extracted from primary abstracts of Punjab 2001 and 2011. The female labour force participation rate is correlated to female literacy rate. Some issues regarding the declining rate of women’s work are also explained. Some of the important policy implications and suggestions for the further increase in female labour force participation rate in Punjab have been suggested.
