Abstract

All over the world there exist two views on women. On one hand they are considered as an emblem of power and on the other hand they are thought of as a feeble, fragile commodity to be exploited. Women have to break apart the stereo type roles that males have put them into. Much has been said and done in order to empower the women all around the world. UNESCO has always taken care of that gender based discrimination is dealt with severe laws.

In India the scenario is drastically changing as more and more females are throwing away the stereotype roles and are now moving with males in all walks of life. There are various social activists who are raising their voices against the atrocities against women. Women discourse has acquired a significant place in the discussions all over the world but has anything changed? It is thought that economic liberation and empowerment can make the females acquire the place in society that they deserve. In India slowly and steadily females are contributing to the economic well being of the family and are facing the dual work pressure at home and in workplace. The effort here is to see whether it has changed the gender biasness or things remain the same. They feel a new kind of subjugation to their male counterparts. Things will not change if the same slapstick attitude prevails. Assigning new roles is appreciable but the mental frame has to change. Then only we can emancipate the women in India.

The effort here is to see what issues, aspects of female problems are highlighted and to what extent these problems are given space and are sought out.

Keywords: Biasness, Liberation, Women, Gender, Discourse
