Abstract
Ransomware has become a significant issue for both public and private sector organizations. Ransoms have risen from hundreds of US dollars to hundreds of thousands or even millions, and those ransoms are being paid. In this paper, the authors discuss the evolution of ransomware attacks and provide guidelines for mounting an effective defense.
