Abstract
The effects of stem cutting section and exogenous auxin application on the vegetative propagation of Antidesma bunius were studied and revealed that stem cutting section significantly influenced the shoot length, shoot number and percent survival but no effect on root length and root number. The basal section of stem cutting recorded the highest means for shoot length and shoot number with 8.35 cm and 1.48, respectively. Highest percent survival was observed in the apical section of stem cutting at 91.00%. Exogenous auxin application using indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) significantly affected shoot length and shoot number, however, did not influenced the outcomes for root length, root number and percent survival. Interaction between stem cutting section and IBA concentration did not significantly affect shoot length, shoot number, root length, root number and percent survival. Wide variations of results were observed regarding the effects of stem cutting section and the application of IBA particularly on percent survival. Further investigation may be conducted to generate more information regarding the vegetative propagation of Antidesma bunius.
