Abstract

Professor Stephen Ellmann and I founded and co-hosted the South Africa Reading Group at New York Law School in 1994. Since then we have hosted hundreds of South African and international scholars, judges of the Constitutional Court and other courts in South Africa, practicing lawyers and civil society advocates. Steve passed away in March 2019. This essay is a reflection on his scholarly work on South Africa and his impact on those connected to the South Africa Reading Group and beyond.
