Abstract

Adsorption refrigeration systems are developed due to the need of replacing the conventional systems which utilize environmentally harmful refrigerants and consume high-grade electrical power. Solar adsorption refrigeration devices are of significance to meet the needs for cooling requirements such as water chiller, air-conditioning, ice-making and medical or food preservation in remote areas. They are also noiseless, noncorrosive and environmentally friendly. For adsorption refrigeration, there is different refrigeration pair available. In this review paper, we have studied various research papers on silica gel-water adsorption - refrigeration. From the study, we found that this system is compatible with low generation temperature around 70-80°C and chilled water is around 10-20°C. Pressure range of the system is 1-12 kPa. COP of the adsorption chiller is in range of 0.3-0.5.
