Abstract
The central preoccupation of rich academic literature is the question of whether the EU’s sui generis institutional structures can plausibly be described in such traditional tripartite separation of powers terms. In this essentially exploratory piece, we argue that a logically prior and arguably more fundamental question must be addressed: whether the EU should be so described.
