Abstract

The study was conducted in District Abbottabad in 2019. The major objectives was to see the effect of project “Take a Child to School on the Enrollment of Children run by Sarhad Rural Support program in nine Union Councils District Abbottabad Khyber Pukhthunkhwa”. Total six Union Councils three union councils namely Dalola, Boi, Pattankalan from beneficiary union councils and three non beneficiary union councils namely Chammad, Mirpur, Dhamtour were purposively selected for the present study. Yamane formula was exercised and total 389 sample size was fixed and through allocation proportion methodology beneficiary respondents, were estimated 230 while non beneficiary was estimated 159. Through questionnaire data was collected and for data analysis descriptive statistic and independent t-test were used. The result indicates that monthly income, household expenditure, saving and monthly expenditure of the respondents on education was found highly significantly and positive. Monthly expenditure on education of non-beneficiary was found more than the beneficiary expenditure and the reason was that some benefits such as stationary and uniform were given on free basis to the beneficiaries’ children were compensated by the project. The relation of various contextual differences including saving, education expenditures gender of children, household income, easy excess to school, household age and household occupation, family size were taken as factors of potential perceived educational barriers for youth, families and communities of the selected UCs. According to data the literacy percentage was 80% in beneficiary whereas 70% in non-beneficiary and other variables such as education, gender, family size, easy access to school, household education etc were also recorded. However, the percentage of students going to school was very low before project while after the project a significant improvement in beneficiary UCs was occurred. The major problems in the study area were low literacy rate; lack of infrastructure; orthodox religious thoughts; low income etc were observed in the project area. On the basis of problems few recommendations were suggested for future improvement of education in the study area. Such as stipend should be provided to children in the school; Sports fund should be increased to schools in the study area; Infrastructure should be provided to all schools for enhancing education in the study area; Transport system should be developed. School fee should be decreased; School number should be multiplied; Experienced teachers should be provided to school system for uplifting the education in the study area.
