Abstract

A fundamental astrobiological question is whether life can be transported between extrasolar systems. In this letter, an epidemic model of the SIR type is proposed to study the spreading of biogenic units, transmitted by interstellar objects among star cluster members. From the analysis of the model is possible to suggest that the activity of biogenic exchange between habitable exoplanets depends on the size of the stellar cluster to which they belong and on the capture probability or impact exchange ejecta, by planetary systems, of biogenic units carried by meteoroids, asteroids and other small bodies. Also, it is found that the greater the cluster, the more likely it is to find biogenic activity in its habitable exoplanets, which will allow the effective dispersion of living entities.
