Abstract

This paper discusses the design of an industrial grade solution to collect sensor data from the farms and regulate water supply for irrigation to the crops/trees when required. In the case of horticulture farms, the water supply to fruit trees is mostly constant throughout the seasons. In such cases, maintaining a certain level of soil moisture at the root levels is helpful to ensure the growth of the trees. A fixed amount of water supply can be predetermined and supplied to the farms periodically or at once.However,this is unregulated and may lead to wastage of water as the requirement of water being supplied is not considered in this process. Automating the water supply irrigation to such a field would require constant monitoring of the soil moisture levels after regular intervals of time. This paper proposes a system where data collected by the sensors would be checked for false values and then collected by a central server where it can be sent to a cloud storage for further analysis. The data transfer from the main sensors to the server can be done via wireless communication techniques. As the farms may be too large and far from the main server, using sub-Gigahertz frequencies for communication would enable the covering of a longer range.
