Analysis of Wang-Shaped Broadband Microstrip Antenna

Intense study of a Wang Shape Broadband Microstrip Antenna with the explanation of resonant modes is presented in this paper. Modal study is performed by observing surface current distributions. A bandwidth of around 80 MHz is realized in Wang shape antenna. The antenna is compared with E-shape microstrip antenna in which length and width of rectangular microstrip antenna are same as that of Wang shape microstrip antenna. The bandwidth observed for Wang shape microstrip antenna less than the bandwidth realized for E-shape microstrip antenna. This may be attributed to the poor impedance tuning of higher order modes of Wang-Shape microstrip antenna. In Wang shape microstrip antenna bandwidth observed is due to TM10 mode only. Wherein E-shape microstrip antenna modes responsible for wider bandwidth are TM10, TM02 and TM12.
