Abstract

The authors examine the concept of criminalistics, explain its meaning and essence, and describe its basic methods. Based on the importance of such area of criminalistics as identification the authors switches to an individual and more detailed consideration of the significance of genetics in criminalistics, discusses the practical side of forensic genetics, provides specific examples of the application of this science in investigations carried out by forensic geneticists, describes creation of federal DNA databases by estimating imperfections and prospects for the application of DNA analysis.
