Antimicrobial Activities and Antibiotic Resistance of Nocardiopsis alba Isolated From the Saline Habitats of Coastal Gujarat

Abstract
Seven Nocardiopsis alba species isolated from the Salt enriched soil of Porbandar and Veraval, near the coastal region of Gujarat, India, were screened for their resistance and sensitivity against antibiotics by using Universal Disc-1 (DE001), Universal Disc-II (DE007) and Universal Disc-3 (DE008) (Hi-Media make) disc embed with 30 different antibiotics. However, isolates PB-4, PB-2, VR-1 and VA-3 were highly affected against antibiotics. Isolates PB-1, PB-2, PB-3, PB-4 showed maximum antimicrobial activities against test pathogens as compared to VR-1, VR-2and VR-3. Further, the ethyl acetate extract obtained from each strain showed significant antimicrobial activity against 10 selected pathogenic bacterial strains. None of the isolates showed antimicrobial activity against Corynebacterium rubrum. The results indicated that the selected 7 Nocardiopsis alba strains had broad spectrum antimicrobial activities and displayed resistance against antibiotics. The study, therefore, assumes significance for searching novel bioactive metabolites.
