On the professional as well as on the personal level, responses to the COVID-19 pandemic need to be based on equity considerations, that is, consideration of how the coronavirus affects distinct communities, demographic cohorts, and identity groups. Leaders at every business enterprise should take the following into consideration during COVID-19 and in its aftermath (1) ask how you can help in the crisis, (2) be aware of how a person’s experiences of the pandemic may differ from your own or from the majority group, (3) seek input from a diverse group of team members and colleagues, (4) amplify less heard voices, (5) make it safe for employees to reveal extraordinary stresses and circumstances they may be facing, (6) implement diversity and inclusion initiatives, (7) recognize how implicit bias shows up in decision making, (8) combat stigma, racism, and xenophobia, (9) cultivate empathy, (10) help your team take care of their mental as well as their physical health.
