Abstract

As somewhat a late-comer to the oil game — coming on board only in the early part of the 21st century — Uganda has straddled the fence between exemplary adherence to best practice (playing by the rules) and running the danger of the proverbial “Oil Curse” (Mbabazi, 2013). In the words of Nnimmo Bassey, “Uganda is gripped by oil fever and hopes are raised high — as is often the case in new oil territories — but the higher hope is raised, the louder the thud when it crumbles”.
